Gorgeously filmed along the back roads of rural Mexico, CIRCO follows the Ponce family’s hardscrabble circus as it struggles to stay together despite mounting debt, dwindling audiences, and a simmering family conflict. Tino, the ringmaster, is driven by his dream to lead his parents’ circus to success and corrals the energy of his whole family, including his four young children, towards this singular goal. But his wife Ivonne is determined to make a change. Feeling exploited by her in-laws, she longs to return to her kids a childhood lost to laboring in the circus. Through this intricately woven story of a marriage in trouble and of a century-old family tradition that hangs in the balance, CIRCO opens the viewer to the luminous world of a traveling circus while examining the universal themes of family bonds, filial responsibility, and the weight of cultural inheritance.

Academy Award(R)-winner Juliette Binoche gives one of the finest performances of her career (for which she won the best actress award at Cannes) in CERTIFIED COPY, the first European film from Abbas Kiarostami (TASTE OF CHERRY). The film is a playful and provocative romance set against the lush, golden landscapes of Tuscany, a captivating story of a couple’s apparent chance meeting and a masterful game of hide and seek exploring the nature of love, marriage and art. Andrew O’Hehir of Salon says, CERTIFIED COPY is “an elegant, wistful and picturesque tale of two ships passing in the Tuscan sunlight.”

The tragic loss of their unborn child has devastated Kate and John, taking a toll on both their marriage and Kate’s fragile psyche as she is plagued by nightmares and haunted by demons from her past. Struggling to regain some semblance of normalcy in their lives, the couple decides to adopt another child. At the local orphanage, both John and Kate find themselves strangely drawn to a young girl named Esther. Almost as soon as they welcome Esther into their home, however, an alarming series of events begins to unfold, leading Kate to believe that there’s something wrong with Esther–this seemingly angelic little girl is not what she appears to be. Concerned for the safety of her family, Kate tries to get John and others to see past Esther’s sweet facade. But her warnings go unheeded until it may be too late-for everyone.
